Education Philosophy
facilitating exploration, discovery and joy about the self

As an educator I want to foster excitement about learning, wonder about the world, and the desire to think outside conventional belief systems. I encourage and value individual thinking, self-direction and self-discernment within a supportive environment that fosters open, respectful discourse and non-didactic instruction.

Teaching for me is about facilitation. My role is to open pathways of personal exploration and self-discovery that help students understand themselves and what they want and need to grow as individuals. By mentoring verses dogmatic instruction I am able to learn about each student and what I can do to help she or he find the answers they seek and dreams they want to fulfill. I want to help people realize that life has meaning.

My intention is to provide others with global awareness and varied viewpoints that embrace and celebrate the differences of others while appreciating and reveling in the commonalities that join people worldwide. Classes I teach and opinions I share are chosen to provoke a deeper personal and planetary awareness that inspire the creation of authenticity and compassion in life and education.

Stories are the center point around which all of my courses spiral. Listening and sharing stories in any form involves the whole person creatively, emotionally, and logically. As we listen we imagine and as we dream, we grow. There is a story for every experience, age, subject and person. Story invokes the child in each of us who yearns to be entertained, educated, and understood.

Mythology, folklore, fairy tales, legend and literature are bridges that close the gaps of distance, time, species, race and gender. Story is the voice of the universe singing, dancing, working, writing and allowing truth and love to enter our hearts in personal, relevant, supportive, life-changing ways.

Diverse, holy and enchanting as the cultures who create them, stories bind and enliven humanity with a richness of experience and understanding that gives people hope, direction and courage to face the passages life requires. My joy is to share the varied avenues of learning through story with you.
