The Wheel of Life
Considering the Spiritual Evolution of Humankind

by Paula Vaughan

I worked full-time and went to school in the evenings while attending Oglethorpe University and getting my undergraduate degree. I had the joy and good fortune of working at a software company where fate and a dash of mystery introduced me to some of the most magical, spiritual people I've ever met. One woman and I became dear friends who shared many lunches, walks in cemetaries, and a host of other wonderful experiences under the stars. She was a soul friend, an anamchara, whose inspired, kind ear enabled me to sound ideas and question everything.

While in the throws of studying world spirituality and religion I had an epiphany in the truest sense - a sudden manifestation or perception of the essential nature or meaning of something - about the path of religious and spiritual evolution within humankind. Writing on a scrap piece of paper, I sat in my cube talking with my friend while explaining and drawing the vision I was experiencing. I felt consumed and overwhelmed.

Rather than representing politically correct ideology or chronological accuracy, the Wheel of Life examines the psychological process one may experience as they spiritually evolve. Almost seven years from the original creation date, I can find new meaning, insight and relationship between and across religious and spiritual thought demonstrated on the Wheel. Mainly I enjoy looking at the Wheel because it inspires and encourages me to keep exploring, to keep connected to the subjects that thrill and enliven me.

I hope you will find insight and inspiration here too. Please contact me for reprint permission.
